Happy Birthday To The Best Mom…I Love You

My granny did everything to help with my emotional pain. She had one child by birth but she had two children. There is no question she was my mother. I talk a lot about my gramps, granny stood at his side keeping him in line. She was shy, her father died when she was nine years old, they lost everything and truly lived day-to-day. Granny went cross-eyed at three years old. I believe this made her self-conscious.

One cherished memory is the havoc we created while she was in a wheel chair. For unknown reasons she could not walk for around two years. She was so depressed it was heartbreaking to see her fade. Granny was so straight and never the life of party. I changed a small part of her timid nature. The best way to cheer her up was a trip to the mall. I had a Corvette and her wheel chair was worst than a boat anchor. Getting the chair in the back of Corvette was not an easy job but I made it look like piece of cake. We would go to the usual stores she liked to shop. To liven things up and really throw her off, I started acting like her wheel chair was a race car. I would make racing sounds and turn corners in the clothes racks real close. When we reached the main walk ways I would start pushing her really fast making fast car noises and jump on back. We would cruise, she would say “Melinda you’re going to hit someone”, with a little laugh. I helped take her mind off life for a short period. She is in my heart everyday.

  1. So happy you had your granny so close in your heart! I had my greatgrandmother this close. The only woman in my childhood that really understood me. Miss her everyday, but feel her spirit in me when I love my kids or have to fight for myself or them ❤

    1. Hello my friend
I hope school is going well and weather not to soggy. Both of my grandparents were the greatest blessing. At 51 years old I continue to realize what they were trying to teach me. I pray all children had the dedicated attention and love.
Take care, stop and smell the roses.
      Hugs

      1. Hi, I’m good; hope you are too. 🙂 School’s ok so far. Just trying to find a balance between that and blogging. How’ve you been?
I get this feeling you’re grandparents were amazing people. I never got to meet any of my grandpas because they both died long before my sisters and I were born.

        1. Hi
I’m taking each day as it comes. There are weeks when I have trouble walking. I’ve slept on the couch and lived in the living room for months. It’s hard to get up the stairs. My grandparents were a gift from God. I would not have made it to 12 years old. My grandparents truly enjoyed the Chaplin while on hospice. My granny was deeply religious, my gramps believed in God but he kept his thoughts to himself. The Chaplin who visited my gramps during the last months was from Nigeria. He had a beautiful accent but gramps did know other accents. I would sit on the couch during his visits, my gramps would listen intently and nodding his head. I understood everything he was saying. Gramps would say, what did he say I didn’t understand anything. My granny would have been so happy to watch him visit with a Chaplin. Seeing how a Chaplin helped my grandparents is the reason I became an Ordained Minister. I look forward to being well and offering help to the elderly and children.
I pray you have a loving support system now.
Your blog is important and have you stop and think. I have no children but I’ll tell you what a mother might. School and your health are most important. Take care of yourself. I’m always here for you.

          1. One of the happiest days of my life is the day I found you on this vast blogosphere. You’ve been a constant motivation to me and a source of strength. I pray everyday that God grants you good health because I know you have so much to offer; not just to me but to so many people out there.
I believe you will be completely well. Just take each day as it comes and at some point we will be doing the victory dance when Lyme is behind you. 🙂
Thank you for the advice; will focus on school… You know, you may not have children, but you’ve helped so many people… and I speak from experience. You’re great woman.
I send you many hugs. ❤

          4. Dearest friend
Don’t ever forget you are cherished in Gods eyes. Mine as well but he pulls rank. I hope you’ve settled into a solid routine at school. I didn’t go to college and imagine how difficult it must be to juggle everything. I think of you often and hope life is treating you very well.
            Hugs
            M

          5. Oh M, thank you so much for your concern. Things haven’t been so easy lately but I’m glad I have settled into a solid routine; that explains my absence lately. I’ve missed you a lot.
Everytime I find myself cursing because I can hardly find time to write and publish posts, your words about school being the best option come to mind and I relax.
I can’t tell you just how greatly you’ve impacted my life. God bless you. 🙂

          6. Dear friend
You will never know how much your words touch my heart. Reach out to me if your having trouble, I’m always here. I understand how you feel about not writing when you would like, it frustrating. My health has degraded making writing harder. I kick myself, then I remember if I die, I can’t help anyone. I’m working harder at taking care of myself.
We’ll work thru our struggles together.
            Hugs
            M

          8. Hugs back my friend,
I’m going thru the get worse before getting better. That’s what Lyme on the brain does. It’s frustrating but I will over come.
            Have a great day.
I hope school is treating you well.
🙂 So good to hear a friendly voice.
            M

          9. What you’re going though right now is just that time of the night which is said to be darkest before dawn…
So don’t stop fighting. It will be dawn soon… God’s with you, watching over you and when the time’s right He will shower His healing mercies upon you. I know He will…

    1. Hello my friend
You were very blessed. My granny expected a lot of me, she wanted me to have more than her. She didn’t attend school long due to lack of money and being legally blind. I’m sure it was hard for her to learn. She couldn’t help with homework but the lessons of life she knew well. I’m so lucky to have both of my grandparents as my parents, I would not be alive today. They straightened out this teen drug addict.
I do thank God for my granny.
      Hugs

  2. I love this post, Melinda. I too was “raised” by my grandmother, lost her at age 6 and it broke my heart. Garth Brooks song…amazing and beautiful. Thanks for the post; it brought the sweetest of memories. Van ☺

    1. Thank you so much for replying to post. What a shame you lost your grandmother so young. No doubt she knew how much you loved her. You are so blessed to have a special person in your life. She influenced your life long after she died. The Garth song brought tears right away, which doesn’t happen often. When you see his emotion and the explanation of the song, I knew it was perfect.
      Hugs

  3. What a lovely tribute to your grandma/Mom. She sounds like a very special lady! I’m sure your Corvette and your wheelchair antics in the stores brought joy to her heart even when depressed.

    1. We had so much fun, the first time she was a bit freaky since she could not not see well. Going fast and acting completely crazy down the main walk ways was fun for both of us. She wasn’t crazy about the Corvette, hard for her to get out of. She needed something to lightly complain about. I practically picked her up and put her in wheel chair.
      Thanks for your kind words.
      M
