Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoCS

This is my first go participating Stream of Consciousness Saturday #SoSC, if I miss something please point it out, nicely. 🙂

Television was a step closer to the internet by way of seeing images for the first time. Much like the radio brought words to books. I’ve seen photos and painting of people gathered around the radio, more imagination is needed to listen and draw the story in your mind.

I had two favorite shows, Popeye and Gunsmoke. Sounds like a strange combo, I was a grandpa’s girl and Gunsmoke was his show. Looking at both now and then, it’s often the good guys against the bad.

Here are the rules for SoCS:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.
4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours. Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.
5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.
6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!
7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.
8. Have fun!

  1. So glad you’re joining in the stream! You did great and I enjoyed your post – especially this part: “I was a grandpa’s girl and Gunsmoke was his show.” I didn’t know either of my grandfathers who died before I was born or shortly after. But a lot of my favorite TV shows are ones my dad watched. I’m watching MASH marathon now. He loved MASH having served in Korea was treated in MASH type places after being wounded. He also watched Gunsmoke though that didn’t catch on with me like MASH. NCIS sure did though. I got that from hanging my dad later in life. Interesting perspective on the relationships between TV, radio, and books. Stream on, Melinda!

  2. Riding along with you as I get to know how to tag along….With both parents being business people. I spent most of my time with our employees and pets.

    1. Life is very different here in America, no doubt you know that. If your family had money you enjoyed more luxuries. If I remember you in S. Africa. I haven’t been there so my view maybe slanted. Hanging out with pets is my kind of day. 🙂

      1. But we missed our parents company and quality time. We were hit by several civil wars. Where we lost everything and started from scratch. It has been a hell or a ride. You have heard of wars in Kenya due to political instability. Keeps pushing us behind. My dad loves animals and when my mum bought me dills, he brought me pets. And that’s where my love and relationship with animals started. They were my main friends since I was not good at making friends with other kids. And yes, pets are awesome and having an opportunity to hang around with. You will be enjoying the real deal 😘👌

        1. S. Africa has gone thru so much, I haven’t kept up lately since we have our own ass in the White House. I hope it is getting better for the people there. Starting over is devastating but it makes you strong as hell! Thanks why you are a strong passionate person for issues close to your heart. It’s tough way to grow up, my parents divorced when I was six so I had lots of problems. Read my “About Me” page. My troubles were different but made me strong in the same way. Have a blessed day.

          1. That’s very true. Difficulties gives you strength to hold on tight for what you love. It changes your perceptions and understand that things can change real quick.

      2. Not all the times. We were hit by several civil unrest due to political instability. I guess you have heard of wars in Kenya. These wars made us loss almost everything, hence had to start from scratch. My dad loves animals hence replaced my dolls with pets. Hanging with pets is one awesome treat you can wish to sustain all the time. Animals make best friends as they give us unconditional love even when we are at our lowest. 👌😘

  3. Welcome to Stream of Consciousness Saturday. I remember my grandparents loved Gunsmoke also and vaguely remember it. Popeye was a favorite of mine also, especially when Popeye ate his spinach 🙂

Please Let Me Know What's On Your Mind!
