Fibromyalgia Thoughts #3

It’s been six months since I’ve had a bad flare, the freedom from severe pain has allowed me to do more chores around the house. I bought a Bona Microfiber mop and go around singing “me and my mop”! Crazy I know but it’s been years since I’ve done regular cleaning let alone enjoyed it.

I’ve learned to not let Fibromyalgia define me, I’m a whole person. One with a life that includes Fibromyalgia, Mental Illness, other chronic illnesses, a four-legged child, a husband, and a personal life.

I’m learning about the importance of taking care of my immune system, taking supplements for the first time. Eating a bit healthier and losing a few pounds.

Self-care is in the front of my mind every day when I have a flair it takes a back seat but now I make sure there is a least one thing I do for myself to make me feel better. Maybe it’s a foot soak, I’ve bought new make-up even though I haven’t had a chance to wear. I’ve upgraded my skincare regimen and I’m worth it.

Another big change in self-care is we have premade food delivered three days a week and every other week I have premade smoothies delivered. I have found it doesn’t cost us much more, we’re eating healthier and saving a lot of time. We’ve also spent more time in the kitchen together. Since all you have to do is cook in the pan we can take turns fixing dinner. Something I haven’t done in years.

I know a flare can come at any time, I’ve been diagnosed with a new immune disorder and my mental health thankfully is stable. I can’t let my illnesses consume my thinking, my life, and my writing.

I have varied interests, my flowers, tomato plants, photography, my bird garden, and expanding my mind. All of which I get to enjoy now and don’t take for granted.

  1. Your flowers are gorgeous Melinda! I love that you have such a positive outlook regarding your health and life in general. Are you by chance using Daily Harvest for your smoothie delivery? I’ve been seeing advertisements for them and they look like they’re full of healthy ingredients.

    1. Yes, I’m using Daily Harvest and the smoothies are great and so simple. I don’t do green smoothies so I always look at the back to see what’s in them. Their Chia bowls are also good as smoothies. I didn’t like them made regular but as a smoothie they are great. I love the chocolate and coffee ones, I often add a banana to mine for an extra goodie. I get nine delivered every other week since they are a little pricey but compared to going and getting a truly healthy smoothie you can’t beat the price and convenience. I’ve really enjoyed going out early in the morning and watching the flowers open up, now if the pool would warm up so I can get some exercise. Have a great day.

  2. See, this is what I LOVE about your attitude. It’s so humbling and encouraging the way you take your perspective from such difficult times. “I’m worth it” < YES you damn well are! You've also reminded me how I've wanted a foot bath in aaaaages but haven't done it, I need to get on that. The home food deliveries are a great idea; that's something that often goes by the wayside for me, eating properly because I'm too exhausted to do any proper dinners any more. I'm glad you've taken the leap so you can make sure your body is well fed and that you're doing more of the things to nourish yourself overall, the things that can bring a smile or make you feel good. Fibro doesn't define you. You might have fibro, but it doesn't have you! Sending love, Melinda.

    1. Thanks for your comments Caz, I thought it was overdue to write about the positives in my life and how we made them happen. Not everyone has the opportunity to have food delivered but for us, the other sacrifices are worth it. My husband has seen our bills increase since I got the “I’m worth it” attitude. I just looked at how much he was spending on wine a week and said I’m spending the same amount. What can he say, no? Have a great day. 🙂
