Quirky Things About Myself

Quirky:

A peculiarity of behavior; an idiosyncrasy: “Every man had his own quirks and twists” (Harriet BeecherStowe).

We all have little things that make us different from one another. Some may call them quirky, I think they are a part of our personality which makes us interesting.

I have to sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door and on my left side.

Always take a seat that backs up to a wall.

I eat a fruit smoothie for lunch every day seven days a week.

All the clocks but one are set 15 minutes ahead of time. I’ve done this since I was a teen.

I’m left handed but use mostly my right hand.

The left sock and shoe goes on first. Always tied before moving to the right foot

I only speak English but know words in several languages. I have studied Spanish, French, and Russian and only know a few words in each.

Tell me something quirky about yourself!

  1. I typically have the same lunch every day, and I sleep on the side of the bed next to the door. I couldn’t sleep on the other side, ever. It’s interesting that you’re left handed, but mostly use your right hand. So that’s something you’ve done since you were younger, perhaps in part because being a ‘leftie’ was discouraged at school maybe. Do you write with your left, or are you ambidextrous? I tried to learn to write with my left hand (I’m right-handed) when I was younger, and I intended on writing with that hand every now and again as I got older but of course I stopped doing it. I don’t really know why I started that. Perhaps I imagined one day I’d break my right arm and I’d be all good because I could right with my left 😂

Setting the clocks 15 minutes forward.. is that so you’re never late for things?

I loved this post, Mel. It’s fascinating to learn these sorts of things and what makes you YOU 💜💙💚💛

    1. I don’t like being late at all! The leftie thing probably started at school when I was little but I don’t know. I do all sports right handled, eat and write are the key things I do with my left hand. I used to be able to write very poorly with my right hand but now it would have no meaning, bunch of lines on a page. You’ll have to put one together on yourself!

  2. I relate so much to the clock being set 15mins ahead. Years ago I began setting the wall clock 10mins ahead to rush kids & not be late for school bus & later it became a norm. We all started subtracting 10mins in our minds & planned our activity !! LOl.

  3. This is a fun discussion:) Well I will add this to the mix..I still suck my thumb when I am very tired..I am very much an adult hehe..many decades being one, but this habit was never broken:) Quirky!😜

  4. It was nice to get to learn more about you Mel – thanks for sharing! I found the thing about you being left-handed but mostly using your right interesting because I do the same thing. My husband always teases me that I’m secretly left-handed because I do so many things with my left hand even though I’m right-handed. He even commented on day that I set things up opposite the way someone who is right-handed would normally position them.

    1. I”m a lefty but do very little with the left hand. It’s strange. I think some of that comes from my age group when teachers were discouraging left-handers for some reason. I was too young to remember why but I remember hearing about it when I was older. You didn’t tell me anything else about yourself?????

      1. You know, I have a vague memory from when I first started learning to write…. I picked up the pencil with my left hand and my Dad said, “no, you write with this hand” and had me hold the pencil in my right. I also learned to crochet with my left hand, but I learned from my Grandma, and she was left-handed, so that’s the way she taught me. I’ve always wondered, though, if I was naturally left-handed…. If you want to know something else about me, I make up silly songs about random things (to the tunes of other songs). 😂
