Just Pondering

By Field Guide by Stampington

No matter how old we get, it’s always fun to experience something new for the first time. Maybe it’s a restaurant with a cuisine you are unfamiliar with. What’s something you recently experienced for the first time?

  1. I apologize. I just noticed that you mentioned it’s physically difficult for you to move. In that case, regular outdoor activities can indeed be challenging. It’s truly unfortunate, but I hope you still find some light and hope in your life, perhaps from the people around you.

  2. By the way, thinking about new things, moving to this new apartment just over a year ago came to mind. It was our first move to our own place, and it felt fantastic! This is exactly the kind of home we’ve long dreamed of. For the first time, we also have our own sauna, fireplace, and a backyard… and around the same time, getting a new car was also a great experience. After a long and challenging period, these things felt even better… Then, about the daily routine… even though I work part-time and get some outdoor activity, especially in the summer (it’s nice to walk around here with a lot of nature), I have also hobbies etc. days still seem to follow a certain routine. Of course, routines have their benefits, but sometimes I wonder how days repeat themselves, especially now as time seems to pass more quickly with age… This is what aging entails… but here in the new place, I’ve enjoyed more of life’s little joys, (like those gingerbread tarts). 😊 You too, have a great day and week!

    1. I remember my first place and new car, what a feeling of independence. I have a ton of plants outside but this was the 2nd year I didn’t go out there. I’ve have been depressed but know life will change. I’m 60 years old and feel like I’m 80! But that’s the wheel I’m on, either depression or one of my chronic illnesses getting in the way of life. My problem is I have only 2 hobbies because of my cognition impairment. I had so many great expreiences before I became ill. I have photos framed close by so I get to glance all day. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great day. :)

      1. Well, I’m 43 and I sometimes feel like 60 so we’re even… 🤣 …but to be honest depression or being ill is not funny. Seasons of melancholy easily come my way as well, but they come and they go. There’s not much one can do if prone to them. You just have to accept them, but on the other hand, it makes you appreciate the good days even more. Maintaining certain routines is worth trying to hold on, even when lacking energy. For instance, regular outdoor activities and exercise truly have such an uplifting effect!Photos are lovely memories from times gone by, ones I also always yearn for, when I was young and everything was easier… Why is living in the moment so difficult? That’s something one should learn, as all these moments will vanish someday, and their true value is often only recognized in hindsight.

  3. I made gingerbread tarts for the first time during Christmas. They turned out well, and it was something new and different! It brought a good feeling, a bit like when I used to bake Christmas tarts with my mom for the first times as a child!

Good question. It brought a positive feeling while contemplating the answer. Generally, nowadays, it often feels like life is going in a bit of a loop, and there aren’t many entirely new experiences, but I realized that they still happen from time to time.

    1. I’m the same way, my mental health and physical health keeps me at home. I have no desire to get out, it can be hard on my husband since we went to the park with the dogs and stop by Starbucks. I’ve reset my expectations, that’s life. Have a great day and thanks for leaving your feedback. Have a great day. :)
