My DNA Story

Looking for the Light

You need blood samples from a female and a male relative to see your complete DNA Genome. The trick here is that male DNA doesn’t pass down to women which means a female needs the help of a male relative to see your complete ancestral history. 

Your DNA can reveal a lot about your ancestry-where your ancestors may have come from, when and where they may have migrated around the globe, and how you’re connected to populations worldwide.

Here’s how my Ancestry Composition breaks down

I belong to Haplogroup H which is dominant in the general European population and appears frequently in the continent’s royal houses. I’m a distant relative to Marie Antoinette, Prince Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh, and famed 16th-century astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.

The most exciting finding was that I am related to Neanderthals, the first modern humans before extension 40,000 years ago. I’m 2% Neanderthal. Cool, and I like having prehistoric ancestors.

I have 1510 relatives who have had their DNA tested at 23&Me, I’ve talked with a few but it hasn’t been of great interest to me.

    1. There are probably many companies but the two most trusted that I know of are 23&Me and Ancestry. What’s great about 23&Me is if someone had their DNA tested there you will get a notification of a new family member. You can also build a family tree if you want. I’m not familiar with Ancestry’s process but have used them for many years to build a family tree. Building a family tree can get addictive. Have fun.

  6. I used Ancestry some years back and even though my parents themselves hadn’t contributed a sample, relatives of theirs had, so I could see what parts of me came from both sides. Very interesting. Recently they were talking about your results changing a little based on better technology. So cool you having royal lineage!

    1. I have many less known royal family members and a couple who were Knights, that is what interest me. Technology has changed, when I first had my DNA done I was close to 4% Neanderthal but it’s been knocked down to 2%. My Native American heritage must not show up since I don’t have a way to get my father’s blood.

        1. My father was an only child and I never met his side of the family. His father abandomened him while granny was still pregnant. I’m ok with one view, I’ve asked my brother multiple times but he won’t even answer back. I respect that, many are concerned with how their DNA can be used. That’s why I sought out the most respected on at the time. Right of the top I don’t see how someone getting that info can harm you when all you have to do is a few searches and you can find all of your personal information.
