That’s fascinating about the big hearts! It makes sense, but just imagining a heart almost as tall as me, sure clarifies the perspective. Octopuses are very smart, too and great escape artists.

Wow. A 400 pound heart… a 30 pound heart… a 10 ounce heart? Mind blowing!
Years ago, when I was in nursing school, I got to observe an open heart surgery. The surgeon told me to stand on a foot stool at the patient’s head so I could get the best view. When he cut open and retracted the man’s rib cage, I stared in astonishment at the beating, throbbing heart flanked by billowing, breathing lungs. I was agnostic, almost an atheist, at that time. But seeing such an amazing sight… I began to doubt my doubts.
Now, I’m trying to imagine seeing a beating 400 pound heart. That’s about the size of my hefty 6’4″ husband and me, put together. WOW!
