Here’s my own thoughts about it: Wouldn’t it be great if you knew that whatever happened, someone would always support you. That you could count on that the other one will stay by your side and don’t disappear anywhere. I would like to be the one who doesn’t give up no matter how hard times are. I also expect the other not to abandon me. Quite honestly, I don’t know if I would survive cheating but I would love to be able to do it together too. You can cope with everything if you want to…
Even if you can’t forget it, (or, for example, to continue a relationship), forgiveness is still important to the other one and also to yourself that you can both go on with your life.

You’re exactly right, I forgave my parents but did not forget what happened. I had to move on from the pain.
