Ladies, Let’s Talk About Urinary Tract Infections

Let’s talk about a subject that doesn’t come up in everyday conversation.

There are so many Azo or other Urinary tract infection medications on the shelves and you need to read the ingredients. I do most of the shopping at Amazon and they have an Azo for whatever your target is.

If you are not allowed to use NSAIDs, read each package carefully. I can’t take them and several I looked at had NSAIDs.

But the no-stain type of Azo or others. The stain they leave is bright orange and doesn’t come out in the wash.

Azo is meant as a short-term patch. If you are using it longer than recommended, don’t make the mistake I made and let it go on for two months. I knew, but I had so many health issues coming up at the same time. Letting a Urinary Tract Infection can progress to a Kidney Infection which is exactly what happened to me.

When I was in my early 20s I started getting UTIs often until I saw an Urologist.

These are good tips for everyone.

If your clothes are wet for a long time, it can start a UIT. Back when I was diving I brought a dry change of clothes.

After sex go pee.

Change your feminine pads often.

Wear cotton panties, they breathe better.

Use a feminine wipe after a bowel movement.

I’m sure this is a much longer conversation, maybe you have a post to share.

I hope this helps.

Melinda

  1. Useful post, Melinda. I was suggested to drink plenty of water and not use public washrooms to prevent UTI and if for any reason there’s a need to use a public washroom to be diligent about drinking lot of fluids for 15 days. This was a suggestion from a healthcare professional.

    1. Yuck! Public bathrooms, I avoid if possible. I drink plenty of water, the problem is I have Chronic Kidney Disease and it causes UTI like symptoms. I see my Kidney doctor on the 8th, I have confidence he can do something. Thanks so much for your feedback. :)

  2. Drink plenty of fluids. I find, especially older people, drink less because they need to pee more. But peeing regularly through drinking fluids will keep your system flushed out.
In the event of having a UTI, drinking cranberry juice, at least a glass of it every morning at the start of your day helps too and if you catch it early enough, doing this and drinking water will be enough that tablets won’t be needed.

      1. I used to get them regular in my early 20’s. The doctor recommended the cranberry juice to me. I do find it too sweet. But if I feel I am going to have one, then I will get it in and get that glass down me in a morning. Thankfully, I don’t get them like that as I did then. I can’t remember the last time I felt I had one.

        1. I had not had any issues for a long time but with my Chronic Kidney Disease it’s common to have on-going UTI symptoms. I see my Nephrologist for the first time in a couple weeks. They can take care of all the issues that come up. Have a great day. :)

          1. I imagine for you that it is an issue when you have one that it requires antibiotics. Glad to hear you have not had any for a long time. Have a great day too. Thank you. 🙂
