St. Patrick’s Day March 17, 2024

St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration held every year on March 17. Originally a religious feast day (the “Feast of Saint Patrick”, the foremost patron saint of Ireland), it has developed into a celebration of Irish heritage and culture generally. It is celebrated with festivals, parades, and dancing by the Irish diaspora in many countries around the world. It is customary to wear green clothing or accessories, the color most associated with Ireland. The Lenten restriction of fasting is lifted for this day, encouraging the consumption of alcohol.

I only knew that the celebration was to drink more beer, mostly green. Now that I know it is religious it was a celebration I will take note.

I don’t drink anymore but I’ve had fun in the past.

  1. Great post Melinda! St. Paddy’s Day is a big celebration here in NL, especially on George St here in St, John’s. You will see nothing but a sea of green here that day! My descendants, like a lot of Newfoundlanders, is Irish… lol

I don’t celebrate it much anymore myself these days, I tend to hide from that day but I might come out of hiding this year…

          1. No, not so much cold here on the Island. The coldest I have seen it here is -20, with the windchill! Today, it is -1 and we are going up to 5 with lots of heavy rain coming this evening. It will melt a lot of the snow we just got. I learned that if it is too cold, it won’t snow…
We do have lots of wind though! It is not as cold here as it is on the Mainland…
