The family cookbook contains recipes, my Gramps & Granny used often and is the type of food I grew up on. Good ole Southern food like my Gramps dumplings, to Grannies pecan pie.
This is Gramps’ favorite, he loved them so much he carried the recipe in his wallet. My brother learned from Gramps and was much better at making them.
What You Need
1 1/2 cups white flour
1/2 ts baking powder
1/4 ts salt
1/4 cup shortening
How To Make
Sift flour, baking, and salt together
Crumble in the shortening with your fingers
Add just enough milk to make a very stiff dough
Using a spoon to mix
Roll out the dough on a well-floured board until it’s very thin
Cut 1/8 thick
Cut into strips and lay into 3-quart post-medium chicken
1 1/2 broth into until boiling stock
Lower heat and cook slowly for almost 20 minutes
Do not take off the lid
Gramps loved dumplings

Dumplings… One of my favorites, especially in homemade beef stew… rabbit stew is great with dumplings too though I haven’t had it in many years…

I haven’t had Beef Stew in ages but I love it. I don’t cook anymore so my husband cooks on Wed. & Sunday. For the other meals we have a store close to us where we buy items to make a meal or split a meal, it’s all fresh food. Maybe you’ll have to get in the kitchen and make you a Beef Stew. :)

Your right, it is about time to make it once again. I cook every day and enjoy doing it.

I have cooked since I was a child and only stopped after my health took a dive. One of my favorites to make is red sauce from scratch. I haven’t made in years but it was so good, and I used fresh sardines for that special touch. Early in our marriage we would make our own pasta and of course my red sauce. That was before my health tanked. The great thing about beef stew is having left overs to freeze or eat later in week. Have fun cooking. :)
