Every year is better than the last production. It’s been planted there for over 25 years and has not once fertilized. The smell is out of this world!
The rose blooms at least twice a year due to the crazy weather here.

Each rose is different and require different soil, fertilizer and amount of sun. Generally roses like full sun and a well drained soil. Keep is watered and don’t let it dry out, but it’s a balance because they don’t like over watering. It takes practice. Luckily my Granny loved roses and she taught me how to care for them. I don’t do all that can be done but I do cut the back in the winter, how much depends on the type of rose. The one you’re looking at was planted so long ago I don’t remember how far down I wanted but you only need to cover any plant to the start of the stalk. Make sure the root ball has plenty of room to spread out. When planting in a pot, I take some crumpled newspaper or other material that will break down. Wine corks are also good in potted plants, it keeps the drainage flowing and water doesn’t sit on the roots. This spring we had so much rain that the rose, for the first time had a few issues. The leaves were moldy, the leaves didn’t develop correctly. I had to go in and cut all the dead off, the moldy leaves off and it looks a bit bare now. Although it proceeded a large bunch of roses the first time. I will see how it heals now that the rain has stopped. I still didn’t spray it or fertilize it but it keeps giving back. I took a photo of its first round of blooms and posted somewhere but can’t recall at this moment. Where do you live, that can play a major role in growing roses. Have a great day. :)
