I’m glad you joined me on Wordless Wednesday and hope to see you again soon.
Statue of Peter The Great in the square in St. Petersburg, Russia 2001
I had the great privilege of staying at the Astoria Hotel, one of two five-star hotels in St. Petersburg and this was the view from my window. I keep the memories of my trip to Russia close to my heart. My trip was scheduled for 9/11/2001, and all flights were canceled for two weeks, but when I arrived it was a special moment. People knew I was American and they would come up to me and say how sorry they were about what happened in America. A special time indeed.

This is a stunning photo. I love how the people look like ants.
Two Hooves Raised: Now, if both front hooves are lifted off the ground, it signifies that the rider died in battle. A solemn tribute to their sacrifice on the battlefield.
Hugs, Gavin.

I had no idea! I’ll look for that in the future. I don’t have a photo editor right now and just have the options MAC has on my laptop. But the color looked close to me. It’s not the greatest close-up but it gives a bigger picture. The people do look like ants and only you would see that! Hugs and thanks.

What a stunning photo, Melinda! The Statue of Peter the Great against the backdrop of St. Petersburg’s historic square is truly breathtaking. And to think, this view was right outside your window at the Astoria Hotel! It must have been an unforgettable experience to wake up to such an iconic sight every day. Thanks for sharing this special moment with us!

What made the trip even better was the architecture of the Hermitage Museum, attending a ballet and I traveled alone. It was a dream trip for me.I stood out as an American since most women don’t travel alone but the hotel and local restaurants took good care of me. One night I had reservations a few blocks away from the hotel, the hotel called the restaurant to ensure they took care of me and protected me from any danger. I love the Mafia or as they are called in Russia, Nostra Costa, if I remember correctly. The high roller’s of the mob spent every night having dinner in a special dinning room. I have nothing but good memories. Maybe the trip of a lifetime because I don’t see me traveling Internationally or even nationally right now. But I keep up hope, I would love to return to St. Petersburg to see the areas I could not cover in 10 days. :)
