I have many sentimental items placed around the house that would sting if they were lost in a fire but the most dear items I have are the photos of my grandparents, their parents, and those of me and my husband. Losing those would be devastating yet in the big picture items are not what we need to survive.

I lost all my family photos when our ship sank, The ship sank in waters to deep to be recovered and the water damage would of destroyed them anyhow. I am still saddened by this. Why did I bring all of them onboard?

I’m so glad you survived, that’s very traumatic. It’s so easy to ask the Why questions after the fact, we make the best decisions we can at the time. The beauty here is you survived and still have the photos and memories in your mind. Take good care.

Melinda, those photos sound incredibly precious—a living thread to your family’s history and love. It’s true, while items hold deep meaning, our strength and survival go beyond possessions. Thanks for sharing such heartfelt insight.
