Basil can have a bitter taste if eaten alone, and once cooked it’s sweet and savory.

It’s also good to dry some whole leaves or crumble them for cooking.

Basil is so versatile, I love to pick a stalk of and put in water to fill the kitchen with a fresh smell.

Your basil is beautiful Mel! I planted mine with my tomato plants so they have enough shade to keep from getting sunburned. They seem to like it there, and like you say, the fresh basil is the icing on the cake for quite a few of the dishes we enjoy. Do you make pesto with yours? I made a batch a couple of weeks ago, and it was so good!

I actually planted them with my tomatoes to deter insects. I haven’t made Pesto this year but have in the past. II’ve also dried them. The other bonus is the bees love the flowers and we desparatly needs bees.

You’re so right about our need for the bees!

Without bees our entire food production will die off, at least the ones that need pollination like my almond milk.
