“Seek joy, not happiness” is a philosophy emphasizing that joy is an internal, controllable, and lasting state born from purpose and presence, whereas happiness is often an external, fleeting, and result-reliant emotion. It is a call to focus on meaning and contentment in the present moment rather than chasing fleeting highs.
It’s unfortunately very simplistic.
The other quote I prefer:

It is a call to focus on meaning and contentment in the present moment rather than chasing fleeting highs.
