Good Times On Highway To Hell

My name is Miss Trouble

Miss Trouble at six years old.

My brother was my best friend and I have hundreds of great memories. I laugh thinking how we came up with some of our adventures. Looking at the worst years of my life and finding happiness is liberating. These memories made my life feel normal. Some are a chuckle, others a belly roll, and most are just things kids do. I was often the mastermind, no time to waste. I hope it will brighten your day. Maybe spark some memories of your own.

We put sheets and blankets over our double-long clothesline making tepees to hide in. We could get a good thirty minutes of fun before having to look for real fun/trouble. Our dog Sandy got in on the action by pulling the tepees down.

While preparing my stepfather’s house for sale. My mother had finished moping the floor. With no thought on our part, we put pop tarts in our soda and they blew all over the newly mopped kitchen.

My brother was checking out a new Christmas BB Gun and shot me in the leg.

We always fought over who got to lick the cake icing bowl.

My Favorite We didn’t know why but our grandma was babysitting that day. Beyond bored, we start walking down the alley. My brother finds a bag of rotting potatoes, perfect for trouble-making. Our neighbors had a pool and were not home, we threw potatoes in the pool, and a dog bowl, on the house and back door. Little did we know our grandma was looking out the kitchen window watching us. We came into the house like nothing new. We had to wait until neighbors got home, apologize for what we’d done, and clean up the mess. It was nasty to clean but it was worth it.

Popping Bubble Wrap was a huge treat, we would fight over who got the bigger piece, We would lay in the front yard watching the stars popping our bubbles.

I would take Turtle Wax from the garage and mix in a little dirt to see how fast it would eat through a pie pan. Dixie cups melted quickly but pie pans took longer. It was difficult to explain the stains on the picnic table.

I never wore shoes unless forced. My grandfather came over and I was my usual jumping-around self. Looking at the flowers of the weeds in our yard. I enjoyed the simple things. Then I let out a scream, I stepped on a Bubble Bee. My grandfather said “Pud” you’ll be okay. I wandered off to find the bee. It was so pretty and I’d never seen that kind of bee. My grandfather called me “Pud” all my life, my guess is that it was an old people’s term of endearment.

At 4-5 years old, I was across the street playing and my mother started yelling there’s a tornado coming. I didn’t hear her so went to the middle of the street to see what was so important. A tornado is coming get in the house now. OK. My dad was at work so we gathered around the television. It wasn’t long before I had to go to the bathroom. I was so scared, I would not go because the Tornado Man might get me. An important note: my Easy Bake Oven went with the wind.

This was great, my brother came from the store with gum with a small poster in it. He asked if he could put it on the wall, NO! He snuck into her bedroom found a bobby pin, plugged it in an electrical socket, and caught the carpet in his bedroom on fire.

I matured early…..getting my mouth washed out with soap for saying fuck at 4 years old.

We’re on a teeter-totter at our grandparent’s house, I was in the air and spotted a snake. I was screaming like crazy. Gramps came back with a hole but I would not get off the swing. I still hate snakes.

When our teeth were loose we put a string around it, tied it to the doorknob, and then slammed the door. One time it took three tries to get one out. The tooth fairy didn’t leave any extra money.

Gramps and I would have a watermelon seed spitting contest, who could get seed all over the picnic table.

One of the methods of discipline my grandparents used was to go outside and get a switch. If you brought a wimpy one, it was back outside for another.

My grandparents would take us to Ponchos, and we raised the flag for more until we exploded.

We had pampas grass with long razor blades, on each side of our driveway. We made a bike ramp, the goal was to jump over both pampas grass, and the driveway and not get cut to shreds.

Singing to the radio with my dad driving 90 miles an hour, smoking a cigar with windows rolled up and constantly pushing buttons on the radio while changing lanes. We didn’t worry about his driving it was the cheap cigars we complained about.

I’m blessed to have good memories of my childhood.

XO  M

Throw Back Thursday (Wednesday) *Let's Get Rocked*

I hit pay dirt this week. The first two are in pre-release, I think both drop later this month.  David Gilmore doesn’t have a video. None of the bands are new, you’ve heard many of their tunes here. The last video is my Guitar Hero, Eric Clapton. He sounded great even thru one ear. I not happy with Bose right now.

If the music captures you, download and get your rock on anytime. Eric caresses the strings perfectly, I lose myself  every time.

Grab your beverage along with a nice assortment of cheese, bread and toppings.

I wasn’t drinking any beverages posting today, just forgot what day it was. Music is the good for you fruit. Eric Clapton doesn’t sound as perfect as liked, I could not pass up the best solo I’ve hear.

A shout out to a Dragon friend of mine.   XO Melinda

Remember the Alamo!

If you’re a Texan you know the Alamo, it’s in your blood. I knew the quote as a small child but not the meaning. In school we studied the Battle at the Alamo. Like many subjects in school it didn’t apply to me. In my late 20’s I visited the Alamo, spending hours reading all details available. I felt tremendous pride for the volunteers who took up arms to end the war. The pride felt swelled my heart. History repeated, men and women willing to die for our country. It was like a spear entered my body.

I read the names of people who lost theirs lives, the very least I can do. My ex-husband stood by as I cried and read each name. Why were so many Europeans on the list? I walked out the door, looking left to see a huge canon. I ran to touch my history as a Texan.

Each Day of the Challenge Three Bloggers are Nominated

Bucket List Friday * Hot Air Balloon Ride Mishap *

Jackie&Me Balloon Ride

Celebrating after Balloon Ride

I like Bucket List Friday, it jacks me up for the weekend. I can’t recall a time when adventure was not on my mind. Many years there wasn’t a dime to spare but dreaming was fun. I’m the thrill seeker who would travel half way around the world to bungee jump off the highest bridge. The ultimate scare you to death experience now marked off after two serious car wreaks. This my friend Jackie (curly hair) who lives in England. Our birthdays are close together and we enjoyed celebrating together. Jackie is a ski instructor back home, we spent a Christmas in Breckenridge, CO. Everyone was skiing, her kid didn’t use poles, she did Black Trails, they were having a blast. I fell getting off lift every time eating snow. Back to balloon adventure. We live in a large city with large cities around us, we lift off heading for the cow pastures in the distance. The sunset slowly went down giving a beautiful light display. We were landing and the wind picked up, turbulence is all. Before I know it we hit a tree and bounce up and over to another tree. I wasn’t scared of crashing, my interest was cow patties and cold champagne waiting.  The mishap added to the adventure. You will find Ballooning in French country side on my list.

I would love to hear what you have on your Bucket List. Have a great weekend.  XO  Warrior

Throw Back Thursday Triple Shot of U2 * Meaningful words will touch your heart *

I’m a huge U2 fan, Joshua Tree my first album.  The words caught my attention and who couldn’t notice the Irish accents. I watched interviews, learning they were childhood friends and belonged to choir in school. Money can change the core beliefs of people. I don’t feel U2 has strayed from their original beliefs. I was the kid who always played the B side of every single and albums, finding gems with an open mind. These three songs have more than surface meaning to me. I hope you will put aside any ideas you have of what U2 are as a band, let your mind hear the words. The music is world music.

Grab the headphone, kick off the shoes and clear your head. Be ready to see another side of U2.  XO Warrior

"When I Find Love Again, I'll Be Much Better Than The Man I Used To Be" **I see in his eyes and Body Language **

Many of you know I’m a huge James Blunt fan. How many converts will sway to his new song. I love the black and white video, fit’s perfect. Men may enjoy the babes shaking it. I find the men dancing and kicking up the dust quit satisfying. James married Sofia in September, I believe his music will show a happier man. He comes from a long history of military officers and James takes pride in serving. He’s dated some of the most beautiful women. He met is match with Sofia, who comes from long line of royalty. I wish them the best.    Warrior

Enjoy the songs from my childhood, give or take a few years. Tanya Tucker’s Delta Dawn has a place buried in my heart. Many of the songs are simple, no fancy videos or special effects. What they have in common are words that grab your heart and still have meaning today. I bet there are many who aren’t familiar with the artist or words to the songs. Get on your shit kickers and get line dance warmed up!  Enjoy. M

Throwback Thursday **Rock & Roll History With Queen & Fleetwood Mac**

I thought last week was an all time high, wrong. This week will blow your mind. Ok, maybe not but it sounds so good. Many of you know I love Fleetwood Mac. I also have a deep passion for Queen. Freddie Mercury was a true entertainer. He had self-confidence, down right cockiness, an original. He liked men but loved women, he was overtly sexual in his gestures yet nothing distracted from his power house voice. This song has significant meaning in my life. While in boarding school this became our anthem. It felt like giving the bird to our abusers, saying I will come thru. The words gave me a confidence not felt before. There is a line ” I’ve done my sentence but committed no crime”, as a teenager abused by both parents, that’s how I felt. I wasn’t a bad kid, I was an out of control drug addict that would not be contained. I never felt like abuse was my fault. The evil thoughts I felt about my parents, confusing.  Spending a year at Mt. Saint Michael’s broke this horse with the lightest touch. The nuns and staff gave me all the love and attention my parents never did. The discipline and responsibility saved me, saved me from myself.

I had to include the interview with Stevie, she’s so young, beautiful and so excited. The interview took place in my hometown, I had never seen it before. A total gem. The Fleetwood Mac song, goes back to the timeframe Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac. The sound and video quality is not the best yet I felt energized by the song. Without further ado, kick back in the Lazy Boy, put your feet up and close your eyes. You are entering the Rock and Roll zone.   :)  M

Throw Back Thursday **Triple Shot With Neil Young and Janis Joplin**

Triple Shot Thursday, who can turn the volume down on Neil Young or Janice Joplin. The first Neil Young gives you a glimpse at his sense of humor. Who knew? The video is priceless, today you won’t see an artist not prepared for a set. It cost money. The exchange with the audience is real and the foundation of good music. The second Neil Young and Janis Joplin videos have special meaning to me. While in bad girl boarding school I met people from every economic group and fours corners of America. One thing we all had in common is we were damaged, for different reasons yet all suffering. Music became the glue, we had music in common. Needle and Damage Done effected me deeply. Not for the reason he sings about, I was a drug addict without using needles. My mind focused on Damaged Done. At 13 years old I felt my life was damaged beyond repair, it’s amazing what a year in a positive environment can do. Mercedes Benz by Janis brings memories of hard work wrapped around fun. The boarding school had a fully functional laundry, it was a way for the Convent to make money. They did laundry for The Greenhouse Spa. When you graduated from kitchen duty you moved to laundry. In the middle of one room was a mangler machine. You feed the sheets in properly and they came out the other side ready to fold. The pace of the machine keeps you busy. All newbies started at the mangler. It was hot, back breaking work, there was no stopping the machine. Each station had a certain amount of items to fold or iron or whatever. I had the choice station of hand ironing the delicate lace. All the older timers with plush stations ended before others yet could not leave. We would sit on a folding table singing this song non stop. It drove the Nuns crazy. We would sing at the top of our voices and totally goof off. At 51 it’s an unexpected gem, fun memories during a low point in life. Its time to kick back, let the music take you in and relax. You Deserve It!     M

Seven Things about myself:

I can’t have to many watches, this is a twenty year passion. I only have two expensive watches, one being my first splurge a Tag Hauer.

I think I’m a tech guru, on the MAC that is so from the truth.

I won’t drink milk out of date.

Before Lyme, I was a fanatic about a clean desk.

I usually have four or five books I’m reading at same time.

I listen the same three artist every night, James Blount, John Mayer and Josh Groban.

I love Black & White photography.

I’ll have to come back and finish up the requirements and nominations. Be patient with me, it may take a long time. Thank you Alygeorges for wonderful surprise.

Cellphoneography: Working On Peace

Japan plans for celebration at Peace Statue, the celebration scheduled for 8/9/14. There are many messages in the festivities including, educate those who are to young to remember the Atomic Bomb dropping 8/9/1945 at 11:02. The celebration is to send a message of World Peace. I think World peace is desperately needed more now than any other time in history.
