Tips To Stay Healthy While Working From Home

As many of us are finding ourselves at home for work at the moment, it can feel a little disorientating having to go back and forth in the same space. With that being said, there’s a lot that you can do to make working from home a more enjoyable experience. Remote working might be something that’s even more common in the future so it’s worth exploring what you can do to make it a healthy environment for yourself. Here are some tips to stay healthy whilst working from home.

Set Up A Separate Workspace

A separate workspace is something that you want to try and incorporate as best as you can. Even if you’re setting up a temporary wall in your living or dining room area so that it can feel like you’re stepping into an office. If you have a study room, then you certainly want to take advantage of this as this can provide the workspace you need to thrive. When you’re working from home, the last thing you want to do is to be sharing the communal spaces or using space like the living room or your bedroom and blurring those lines. If you’ve had a hard day at work and you’ve been doing it in the living room, you’ll probably want to avoid that space from then on. It can end up hindering your home space, so it’s worth finding a setup that can work in the home but is not going to encroach on the space where you relax at the end of the day.

Take Advantage Of Lighting Features On Your Devices

When it comes to your electronic devices, whether that be your laptop or your phone, it’s worth tweaking the lighting. This is when you need to adjust it during early morning starts or late nights. The light from our phones and computers can be quite harsh on our eyes so knowing how to go into dark mode here can be beneficial. It’s always good to know what the dangers are when it comes to spending too much time in front of a computer screen. It’s important to find options that can help reduce the impact of screen time, and it may be worth you getting some glasses that can block blue light. This can be helpful in your eyes and give them a rest from the harsh lights that come from our screens.

It’s important to focus on your break times when it comes to working from home. You want to ensure you’re still getting those breaks to help you reset your batteries and give yourself a break from the workload that you have. When it comes to regular breaks, make sure you’re stepping away from your desk and stretching your body. You mustn’t be sat down in a seat for hours on end. You should be getting up and going for regular walks around the home to help keep your body moving. Be sure to take a proper lunch break as well and practice eating away from your desk if you tend to eat at the desk.

Schedule Your Day

Scheduling your day is important because it’s going to help keep you motivated to do the work you’ve set out to do. Try to incorporate the breaks into your schedule so you know when you have some free time coming up and that it won’t interrupt anything you’re doing that might break your productivity. Some people like to schedule their day hour by hour, whereas others like to do it morning and afternoon. Others might find that they just have a to-do list that’s in order of when they do it. It’s good to find and practice what works for you so that you’re getting the most out of your day.

You might want to buy yourself a physical planner or perhaps look at online platforms that you can use to set out your tasks. Explore what’s possible and what works well for your productivity levels. We’re all different so we’ll all need to work a little differently!

Stick To Your Working Hours

Your working hours should be the same as they were if you were in the office. So if you’re starting at 9am, start at 9am. Be strict with yourself and your employer because, for some, they may try and take advantage of the fact you no longer have the commuting time to factor in. It’s still important that you’re doing the hours that you’re paid to do and that you’re not overworking yourself. That’s not something that’s going to be helpful for you, and we’re all only capable of doing so many hours of creative work before we burn out. Your working hours might not be exactly the times you usually do but try and get as close to them as possible.

Continue To Eat Healthily

To stay healthy, it’s important to continue to eat healthy when working from home. When working at home, there can be a lot of temptation within your kitchen cupboards, and if you’re doing more hours from home, then you may do your weekly shopping accordingly. This might be that you have more food than you would while in your workplace. Try to be strict with your food intake and be sure to not eat too much throughout the day as it’s going to leave you feeling lethargic, especially if you’re not doing much exercise. Try to keep yourself fit and healthy both in body and mind, which a lot of it can be influenced by the food we eat.

Staying healthy while working from home can prove to be a challenge, but it’s important to do. Use these tips to help stay healthy during these remote working occasions.

Do You Think Money Solves All? NOT!

I was not born into money and any money had to be made by me. Sometimes, I would think “If I had money, this would all go away.” The great thing is this encouraged me to jump out there and set the world on fire.

My first job was a paper route at 10 years old, just several blocks around my house, producing money that made me feel more in control and it felt great.

I worked my way into sales which is a natural fit for me, and I worked hard but always had my eye on the goal, more money. I joined a 2B company as a National Trainer with 15-20 offices. I had arrived at the top! Not really. I traveled 5-6 days a week, ran errands the entire weekend, and spent no time with my ex-husband. This job was the beginning of the breakdown in our marriage.

During those few years, my salary was between $250K-$350K, plus adding bonuses like money and exotic trips, I was riding high. I spent money like crazy, and never thought about my long-term future.

A few years later, I won a lawsuit and became a multi-millionaire. It was short-lived after paying the taxes and the lawyer and the settlement isn’t so large. Shortly after the settlement, I had Brain Surgery and took some time off to recover by remodeling and upgrading our house. While our marriage fell apart and we divorced.

I never asked myself if I was happy, fulfilled, and living a good life. I wasn’t and set out to make major changes. First I started focusing on the future while maintaining a fun life. After the divorce, I no longer had big money. It was a time for discovery.

I matured from the divorce and started writing down what made me happy or what I thought would. I started by giving a bit to charity and other ways to find joy and spent some time thinking about the type of man that I wanted in my life if the chance came again. I was open but already 38 years old.

Learning how to get in touch with myself happened after I married my husband. I have learned what “in sickness and in health means.”  He’s had my back, loved me when I was in very dark places and mean, and has shown that love for over 23 years.

Our focus changed to what we want in our future and retirement, what number would give us a comfortable retirement. To do that you have to make sacrifices which in the beginning was hard for me but now, I would not go back to my high-rolling days.

Money didn’t give me joy, it flamed my ego which affected my marriage.

Money didn’t keep my Bipolar Disorder under control, I did.

Money didn’t keep my Grandparents from dying.

Money will not protect you from harm, death, illness, or stress.

I love our comfortable life watching TV together every night, and catching up on the day while sharing a meal. My husband washes his own clothes which makes it easier on me, takes care of the dogs, and cooks most of the time and in Summer he’s great about watering my plants.

What my journey taught me is money is great but it’s icing not the foundation of a great life.

Why It’s Imperative To Read All Data Breach Letters *Beware!

When I wrote about Data Breaches and Identity Theft in the past I  never dreamed it would happen to me. These breaches are happening every day and our identity is at risk if enough personal information is released.

I’ve received many of these letters as I’m sure you have to, they are getting more sophisticated and you must know what exact information was released. In the past companies were pretty vague about what data is missing but I think the laws may have changed.

The letters that followed included what type of information was taken which is essential.

Two weeks ago I received a letter from Orsini Pharmaceuticals that all of my private information was involved in the breach! Wow, I a waiting target for Identify Theft. If I had not read the fine print my life could have been ruined by Identity theft.

I have spent hours every day since receiving the letter alerting the necessary companies, changing every password, some I had to change my user name as well. I will look over my shoulder from now on.

I haven’t heard of this company and after a visit to their website, it was clear I had not taken any of their medications. WTF! Why did they have my info in the first place? Did someone share it with them or did they buy the list?

I started reading the press releases about the breach and found that the breach happened three months ago but I’m just hearing about it. Interestingly many people were offered 1-2 years paid protection but I wasn’t. Lawsuits are flying in every direction, that is a thought for another day.

My plan is to write Tom Cappetta, Vice President, Pharmacy Operations, and ask him several questions, most importantly why they had my information. It’s a question I deserve to know yet will not get an answer on. I’m also asking for 2 years of total protection.

We’ll see where the letter takes me.

Building Healthier Spaces: Investing in Green Commercial Cleaning for Businesses

Let’s talk about something that might not be the most glamorous topic but is super important: cleaning. Yep, keeping our workspaces clean and tidy is crucial, but have you ever thought about how the products we use could affect not only our health but also the environment? That’s where green commercial cleaning comes in, and trust me, it’s not just another trend – it’s a game-changer for businesses looking to make a positive impact while keeping things spick and span.

Why Green Cleaning Rocks

Okay, so why should you care about switching to green commercial cleaning products? Well, first off, traditional cleaning products can contain some pretty nasty stuff – you know, the kind of chemicals that make you want to open a window and run for the hills. But green cleaning? It’s all about using natural, eco-friendly ingredients that are safe for you, your employees, and the planet. Say goodbye to harsh chemicals and hello to a cleaner, healthier workspace!

Happy Employees, Happy Business

Think about it: your employees spend a big chunk of their day in the office, breathing in whatever’s lingering in the air. With green cleaning products, you’re not just wiping away dirt and grime – you’re creating a healthier environment for everyone. No more worrying about those strong chemical smells triggering allergies or causing headaches. Plus, a clean and healthy workspace can boost morale and productivity – talk about a win-win!

Saving the Planet, One Clean at a Time

But wait, there’s more! By making the switch to green commercial cleaning, you’re also doing your part to protect Mother Earth. Traditional cleaning products can leave behind harmful residues that end up polluting our waterways and harming wildlife. Green cleaning products, on the other hand, break down safely and don’t leave a nasty footprint behind. So not only are you keeping your office sparkling clean, but you’re also helping to preserve the planet for future generations. Pretty cool, right?

Putting Your Best Foot Forward

In today’s world, where sustainability is more than just a buzzword, businesses that prioritize eco-friendly practices stand out from the crowd. By investing in green commercial cleaning, you’re not just cleaning your office – you’re making a statement. Clients and customers appreciate businesses that care about more than just the bottom line. Show them that you’re committed to doing your part for the environment, and you’ll earn their trust and loyalty in return.

Finding the Perfect Green Cleaning Partner

Ready to make the switch to green commercial cleaning? Awesome! But before you dive in, here are a few tips to help you find the right cleaning company for your business:

  1. Healthier Indoor Air Quality – Traditional cleaning products often leave behind harsh chemical residues that can linger in the air long after cleaning. This can lead to indoor air pollution, exacerbating respiratory issues and allergies among occupants. Green cleaning products, on the other hand, are formulated with natural ingredients that are gentle on the respiratory system, promoting healthier indoor air quality for everyone in your workspace.
  2. Reduced Environmental Impact – Choosing green cleaning products isn’t just about safeguarding the health of your employees; it’s also about protecting the planet. Traditional cleaning chemicals can have detrimental effects on ecosystems when they are washed down the drain and enter waterways. By opting for green alternatives, you’re minimizing your business’s environmental footprint and doing your part to preserve our planet’s natural resources.
  3. Safe for Sensitive Surfaces – Harsh chemical cleaners can damage delicate surfaces over time, leading to costly repairs and replacements. Green cleaning products are formulated to be gentle yet effective, making them safe for use on a variety of surfaces, including hardwood floors, granite countertops, and delicate upholstery. This not only extends the lifespan of your furnishings and fixtures but also saves you money in the long run.
  4. Enhanced Employee Productivity – A clean and healthy work environment can have a profound impact on employee productivity and morale. Studies have shown that employees are more likely to feel motivated and engaged when they work in a clean and well-maintained space. By investing in green commercial cleaning, you’re creating a workspace that promotes employee well-being and fosters a culture of productivity and success.
  5. Positive Brand Image – In today’s socially conscious marketplace, consumers are increasingly drawn to businesses that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility. By making the switch to green cleaning, you’re not only aligning your business with these values but also sending a powerful message to your clients and customers. Demonstrating your commitment to sustainability can help you attract and retain customers who share your values, giving your business a competitive edge in the market.

FAQs About Green Commercial Cleaning

Q: Will green cleaning products really get the job done?

A: Absolutely! Green cleaning products are just as effective as traditional cleaners, minus the harmful chemicals.

Q: Is green cleaning more expensive?

A: It might cost a bit more upfront, but the long-term benefits, like healthier employees and a cleaner environment, make it totally worth it.

5 Things That Have Had A Huge Impact On The World In The Past Decade

Hey folks, can you believe it’s been a whole decade since we were wondering if the world would end with the Y2K bug? Time flies when you’re busy changing the world! So, let’s kick back and chat about the top five things that have totally shaken things up in the past ten years.

AI: The Coolest Thing Since Sliced Bread

Alright, let’s dive right into the deep end with everyone’s favorite buzzword: artificial intelligence. Seriously, who would’ve thought we’d be chatting with robots and having them solve our problems? AI chatbots are like our digital BFFs, always there to lend an ear (or a byte, I guess) and help us out of a jam. Plus, have you seen those personalized recommendations on Netflix? It’s like they know us better than we know ourselves!

Chatbots: Your New Digital Bestie

Picture this: you’re stuck on a website, trying to figure out how to reset your password. Instead of waiting on hold for hours, you fire up the chatbox, and voila! Instant help, no hold music required. It’s like having a tech-savvy friend on speed dial, ready to swoop in and save the day.

Personalized Recommendations: Mind Readers or Just Really Smart Algorithms?

Okay, confession time: I’ve lost count of how many hours I’ve spent scrolling through Netflix, trying to find the perfect show to watch. But thanks to AI, those days are behind us. Now, we’re treated to a curated selection of binge-worthy content tailored just for us. It’s like having a personal assistant whose sole job is to make sure we’re entertained 24/7. And this is just the start; we’re seeing all sorts of exciting and different takes on AI chat. Just check out this character AI generator, for instance.

Love it or hate it, social media has become the beating heart of our digital lives. From connecting with long-lost friends to sparking global movements, these platforms have transformed the way we interact with the world around us.

Amplifying Voices: Giving Power to the People

Remember when we used to rely on traditional media to spread the word? Now, all it takes is a hashtag to kickstart a revolution. Social media has given a voice to the voiceless, empowering communities to come together and demand change. It’s like the digital soapbox we never knew we needed.

Influencer Culture: From Likes to Lifestyle

Who needs Hollywood when you’ve got Instagram? Influencers have become the new celebrities, shaping trends and influencing millions with a single post. Whether they’re promoting the latest skincare craze or advocating for social justice, these digital tastemakers are the ultimate trendsetters.

Streaming Services: Say Goodbye to Cable, Hello to Convenience

Raise your hand if you remember the days of appointment viewing and VHS tapes. Thankfully, those dark ages are behind us, thanks to the rise of streaming services.

On-Demand Entertainment: Because Who Has Time for TV Guides?

Gone are the days of flipping through TV guides and setting reminders for your favorite shows. With streaming services, we have the power to watch what we want, when we want, and where we want. It’s like having a movie theater in your pocket, minus the sticky floors and overpriced popcorn.

Original Content: A Feast for the Eyes

From gripping dramas to laugh-out-loud comedies, streaming platforms have raised the bar for original content. With big budgets and creative freedom, these platforms are churning out content that rivals Hollywood blockbusters. Who needs movie theaters when you’ve got Netflix?

Renewable Energy: Saving the Planet, One Solar Panel at a Time

Let’s face it: Mother Earth could use a little TLC. Luckily, renewable energy is here to save the day, one solar panel at a time.

Solar Power: Soaking Up the Sun

Who needs fossil fuels when you’ve got the power of the sun? Solar energy has emerged as a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional power sources, powering homes and businesses around the world. Plus, those solar panels look pretty snazzy on rooftops, don’t they?

Wind Energy: Riding the Winds of Change

Not to be outdone, wind energy has also been making waves in the renewable energy game. With towering wind turbines dotting landscapes across the globe, wind energy is harnessing the power of nature to generate electricity. It’s like poetry in motion, with each gust of wind bringing us one step closer to a greener future.

Telecommuting: Pajamas Optional, Productivity Required

Last but not least, let’s talk about the rise of telecommuting. Who needs a stuffy office when you can work from the comfort of your own home (or anywhere with a decent Wi-Fi connection)?

Remote Work: Living the Dream (in Your Pajamas)

Thanks to advancements in technology, remote work has become the new norm for many of us. No more rushing to beat rush hour traffic or squeezing into crowded trains. Now, we can roll out of bed and start our workday in our pajamas. Talk about living the dream!

Have You Had Problems With The Featured Images Not Showing Up?

I noticed on Monday that my Featured Images were not showing when you view through Notifications. If you click to read the post the image shows up.

I’ve been talking to WordPress all week with no answers. I replied to their email today saying I don’t care anymore. The problems I’ve had in the past were because the System Engineers were making changes that affected bloggers but did not communicate with Happiness Engineers so they would know what was going on.

Take the big change to reblogging. This was a huge change and after many conversations with Happiness Engineers, I found out they didn’t know and had to ask Systems Engineering. This is a big gap in information and a poor way to run a company.

Most companies do the Systems Engineering offline, to not affect users. They debug before they release to the network. WP is the opposite, all the work is done in the background and is often not debugged, so we get to live in the chaos until they get it right.

I am not contacting WP again unless things are directly related to my blog. It’s not worth the emails and lack of answers.

How Would You Feel If….?

I left the hospital 6 weeks ago and still have an issue with my stay. I will file a claim with the Texas Medical Board on the doctor who told me my eGFR was 20 which would mean, I’m not far from death. He said I may not make it out of the hospital. The lab and doctor made a rookie mistake by not testing again since it was so low. I was in complete shock and started calling my brother. I was crying so hard he could not understand what I was saying and had to call my husband to find out what was happening.

How would you feel?

If a doctor told you something devastating  like you’re dying in a few days?

If the hospital loses your medication list and you don’t get your meds for three days? I went into withdrawal due to not having medication?

If the janitor came in with only a screwdriver, rammed it around, then rinsed it off in your sink?

The list is long so I’ll stop here. Please think about how you would react if faced with these challenges.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and thanks for reading.

Are You Struggling With The Winter Blues?

Are you feeling depressed for no reason? Sleeping more? I think about the time of year it is and know when the days start to melt away. You also have to determine if it’s SAD or depression. If your depression gets worse go see a doctor.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that’s related to changes in seasons — seasonal affective disorder (SAD) begins and ends at about the same times every year. If you’re like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. These symptoms often resolve during the spring and summer months. Less often, SAD causes depression in the spring or early summer and resolves during the fall or winter months.

Treatment for SAD may include light therapy (phototherapy), psychotherapy and medications.

Don’t brush off that yearly feeling as simply a case of the “winter blues” or a seasonal funk that you have to tough out on your own. Take steps to keep your mood and motivation steady throughout the year.

Signs and symptoms of SAD may include:

  • Feeling listless, sad or down most of the day, nearly every day
  • Losing interest in activities you once enjoyed
  • Having low energy and feeling sluggish
  • Having problems with sleeping too much
  • Experiencing carbohydrate cravings, overeating and weight gain
  • Having difficulty concentrating
  • Feeling hopeless, worthless or guilty
  • Having thoughts of not wanting to live

Lift Your Mood

These “self-care” tips might help with seasonal depression. See a mental health professional if sadness doesn’t go away or interferes with your daily life:

  • Go to a movie, take a walk, go ice-skating or do other activities you normally enjoy.
  • Get out in the sunlight or brightly lit spaces, especially early in the day.
  • Try to spend time with other people and confide in a trusted friend or relative.
  • Eat nutritious foods, and avoid overloading on carbohydrates like cookies and candies.
  • Be patient. You won’t suddenly “snap out of” depression. Your mood will improve gradually.
  • If you have thoughts of suicide, get help right away. Call the toll-free National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

I use a medium light next to me while in my office during the day.

Improvements You Can and Should Make As A Contractor

Improving what you do as a construction company or independent contractor within one of the trades can help you ensure that your name and reputation are synonymous with quality. But what exactly embodies good quality, expectations, and service, and how do you live up to those standards?

It’s about more than being trained in the job you do because if you weren’t skilled on that front, you wouldn’t be doing it right now, would you? It’s about taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture so you can improve all areas of business, not simply the job you are being paid to do.

Training

Training shouldn’t be a one-time kind of task. It needs to be ongoing and constant. You should update your skills regularly, learn how to adapt to new methods of working, use new equipment emerging in your sector, and implement new technology and equipment.

Knowledge, of course, changes over time, too. So, keeping abreast of updated methods of working and ensuring that you and your team can meet new standards will help you stay ahead of the curve and ensure you know everything there is to know. The BuildOps glossary project can be a great place to start to help you brush up your knowledge, as can working with training providers and connecting with others in your industry, such as local trade schools and business owners.

Improved Customer Service

The customer is the critical element in everything you do because you wouldn’t have a business without them. So, making sure you know the customer journey from start to finish can allow you to put yourself in their shoes and look at what you do from a different perspective.

How easy is it for the customer to find out what you do, who you are, and how you operate? Is your website straightforward and easy to navigate, and does it have a clear CTA? Are you using your social media accounts to share what you do and what customers can text when working with you? How can they contact you, and what type of communication have you had since they made contact?

From here, you can map the journey from quote to completion and everything in between. What is the customer expecting? What do they want from you, and how can you meet these demands?

If you aren’t able to improve the customer journey, then anything else you do will be irrelevant, as you will run out of customers to serve.

Equipment and Supplies

The equipment, tools, and supplies you use to carry out any type of task will also form part of the standards you want to be living up to. To really make a name for yourself with outstanding work, you need to use high-quality goods and parts to ensure that the job is finished to as high a standard as possible. The last thing you want is to have to fix a botched job because your parts didn’t live up to the task, or you didn’t have the right equipment to do a proper job, and you cut corners.

While the cost of your supplies will likely increase the cost of the job, it is worth noting that a little extra can give you and your customers peace of mind that the job is done well and you have used supplies capable of doing what they need to do.

Use Technology

Technology can make your life infinitely easier. You can integrate it in many different ways depending on the type of company you are in. You can automate timesheets and job allocation for field workers; you can use technology to give accurate quotes, timelines, and project managers in construction, for example. You can use information modeling software, bid management, and GPS tracking to help you streamline how you operate.

Technology can also be utilized to help you find bottlenecks and inefficiencies, keep track of projects and timings to ensure costs are kept down, and improve communication between your team and external parties too. If you are still working “old school”, then you’re likely not working out at your full capacity, which will be reflected in how you work and the standards you maintain.

Communication

Effective communication is critical to any well-oiled machine, and that is precisely what your company needs to be. You need to address any barriers impacting your ability to communicate effectively

Use internal communication tools such as Slack to ensure everyone is informed and up to date on what’s happening, what they need to be doing, and when, and they can access the information required quickly.

Look at how you talk to and engage with clients, suppliers, and other contractors to make improvements to overhaul this. You need to have more than one way people can contact you, be it by phone, email, a chatbot on your website, social media, WhatsApp for business accounts, or anything that works for you, and ensure that you respond to queries promptly, keeping people informed of progress and changes at every step of the project.

Suppose you feel that you aren’t able to communicate effectively. In that case, it can be worth taking a course to learn about how you can improve communication and work towards better relationships and standards.

Feedback

Lastly, you need to be asking for and collecting all the feedback you can get your hands on from clients, service providers, and anyone else you come into contact with. You need both the good, the bad, and the so-so feedback.

No one likes to think that people are out here leaving negative feedback, but it can be useful to help you make changes and improvements, and some would argue that it is more important than positive feedback when it comes to improving what you do.

Collect the feedback, look at what can be done better, and put changes in place to make sure this is improved upon. If someone does leave negative or conservative feedback, then knowing you are taking this on board and acting on it will help you boost your reputation because what people dislike more than lousy service are those who refuse to admit they aren’t perfect or aren’t willing to go out on a limb and improve services and standards despite being told they need to.

Why Tires Are Always a Good Upgrade for Your Vehicle

It improves the safety of your vehicle

A good-quality tire means that it has great tread depth and traction. This translates to having a much better grip on the road, especially when you’re driving in rough conditions like heavy snow or rain. Weather can add hazards to the road because you’ll be more likely to slide around, so good tires will keep your car firmly on the ground for a safer driving experience. You’ll lower the rate of accidents and generally improve your driving experience too. Make sure you get quality tires from a place like Dually Shop, especially if you know that you’ll be driving in harsh or difficult conditions and need something reliable.

It helps to improve your fuel economy

Another good reason to swap out and upgrade your tire is because you actually get a bit more mileage out of it! Your car tends to use a bit more fuel to get to places if the tires aren’t very good. With high-quality tires, there’s less rolling resistance which means you spend less fuel getting from point A to B, and there’s actually less energy needed to even move your vehicle. In short, better tires mean better fuel economy, ultimately translating into even more money savings!

It makes braking more responsive

Upgrading your tire can actually improve your braking response times. This is because of the better traction that you get in quality tires. This is crucial for emergency braking situations and will generally feel more responsive than if you were to drive with worn-out tires. So if you’ve ever driven your car and felt a little unsafe because of how delayed braking feels, try swapping out the tires. You’ll feel an immediate difference because of the improved traction and you’ll feel much safer on the road since you can react faster to different situations.

In short, upgrading your tires is rarely a bad idea. It’s a sound way to upgrade your car, you definitely get your investment back, and it’s something you can do on your own at home with a few tools.

Beware When Donating To Charity

This is the end of the year and many will look to make charitable donations. One important step is to look at how the charity is managed. The key step is to check out Charity Navigator. They rate the effectiveness of the management of funds by rating the charities by giving them stars. The higher the score means more of the money is going towards actual work.

Many companies send out requests for money and have great advertising and if a charity spends more than 75-80% in total expenses they are not managing their money well. You go to Charity Navigator and search for the charity you’re looking for or the type of charity you’re looking for and they will show a list. Look at the score, and all the info available on the charity.  Personally, I only give money to charities with four stars.

This year I’m adding a new charity to my list, one that services homeless veterans. I’m combing through Charity Navigator to find a charity that spends its money on the ground directly helping vets. So far all I have found are advocacy groups or ones with less than four stars. I have to keep searching so we can make our donations this week.

Be sure your money is being spent on services, not a highly paid executive and team who sends out letters asking for money.

Happy New Year!

Another New Theme Under Construction

I need to think hard the next time I have an itch for a new theme. It’s what you don’t see when choosing a theme is whether will it replicate the widgets and layout you want. My favorite widget on my old site was the community widget, not avail anymore!

What I’m still trying to work out is:

How to get my post to show an excerpt, not the entire post. I’ve hit my head on this one for hours this morning.

How do I get the social icons to be more noticeable, now they are in the color used for the rest of the site.

WordPress is out of pocket, and I’ve been getting error messages, complete stalls, and pages refreshing for no reason. I do believe the time to load and respond is a WordPress issue.

If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Any feedback you can provide about the theme would be great!

Theme Under Construction

I changed twice today and this theme is breaking my back. It shows me the navigation bar and logo are all there but after hours of this tangled web, I’m left without a header until I can fix it or talk with WordPress.

If someone who’s been around WP for 10-15 years and recently changed themes, maybe you could drop me a line with any ideas.

I’m drained and can’t stand to leave things undone but my anxiety is thru the roof.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Pay Attention To Notices Of Breach Of Data

Most of us have received at least one letter from a company you do business with warning you they were hacked and that some of your information on you was released.

In the past, the information shared with you about what type of data was ambiguous, not anymore. Apparently, the rules have changed and now you are told specifically what information about the data.

I received one of those letters yesterday and almost blew it off but read down to what information was taken. I was shocked!

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

Here’s what information was compromised.

My name

City

State

Zip Code

Email

Telephone number

Date of birth

Gender

That is enough information for Identity Theft and it scares the hell out of me. Not only for that reason but I’ve been stalked several times and now my information is shared with who and how many.

This breach of data came from a hospital where I had testing done in June. Don’t forget to read the information on what information was taken so you can take steps to protect yourself.

A couple of things you can do right away is:

Have your credit card notify you every time there is a charge of $50.

Have your bank send you daily notices of balance.

Check your credit score often, and look to see if any accounts have been opened in your name.

Take their offer for a free credit check and free credit monitoring.

Don’t give the bartender your credit card to hold while you drink or dine.

Be very selective with who you share your credit card number with if any.

Stay aware of what theft is going on in the area, especially credit card readers, ATM’s and never give any of your information to someone on the phone you don’t know. I probably would not give any information over the phone. You can’t be sure the number they’re calling from is really the number.

Keep your eyes open, thieves are looking for information 24/7, and when they have enough information, like in my case, they strike so fast your head spins. It can take years to untangle the mess and you will have to pay some amount to clear your credit score.

I also think about thieves selling your information to other thieves. Also if your information is shared on the Internet, it’s out there forever.

Beware Of All Medical/Health Apps, They May Be A Fraud

There are more Health Apps than a year ago and it’s getting crowded so you may be inclined to pick one. BEWARE!  More research is needed before you ever sign up! One important thing to remember is these Apps are not regulated, as some Apps are unscrupulous including where your information is being shared, and more importantly are the Therapists and doctors who are providing support are licensed.

Let me tell you about an App that offered the services of a medical doctor. The App would refer people to the doctor and the doctor was a fraud! The medical doctor who would write pain medication was not a licensed doctor. The DEA  got wind of this and started watching him. They busted the doctor for prescribing more pills than allowed, writing his own scripts when the patients didn’t have one and if I recall correctly he had prescribed over 15,000 scripts for pain meds, many patients were left addicted to pain meds and had to find help elsewhere. He is spending only 5 years in jail, that is the scary part.

When an App includes the service of a Therapist or Medical Doctor you have to make sure they have the proper license to do so. One way I would do it is look ask what doctor they use and then do a search on them. Find out they are legit. The same with a Therapist, the wrong Therapist can set you back not moving forward. I would check them out as well.

Then I would look closely at the Privacy Policy, and read carefully who they are sharing your information with. Some are sharing your information with hospitals doing research for which they are probably paid to share. If the Privacy Policy doesn’t spell it out, that would be a red flag for me. I would write them and ask where your information is being shared. You’re not signing up to help a research project, your signing up because you want help. If someone is sharing your information, my thought is there in it for money. Beware.

Ask around to see who has used the App in the past or what other App they use. You have to look at it like finding a new doctor. You don’t throw a dart to pick one, you check them out first. I would also do research on the App it’s self, see what you find on the Internet about them. You may be surprised. I’ve written about several Apps in the past and can tell you one is already out of business.

Take a step back before you join any App and make sure you’re getting what you expect, not that wako doctor with no license prescribing medicine of any type.

Test Post for WordPress

I’ve been in heavy conversation with WordPress since 5/11/23 when they started on the Oh-So important Reblog changes. I hope this last post will give me the answer I need and no longer have to spend hours a day communicating with WordPress.

Thank you for hanging in while I work out my problems with WordPress.

I pray they get the sytem bugs worked out and then leave the process alone.

Notes To Younger Self

I didn’t tell my grandparents about the abuse from my Mother and Step-Father until forced by my school at 12 years old. Looking back, why didn’t I tell my grandparents earlier? I knew I could trust them.

I would say to my 12-year-old self, life will get messy at times, and leaning on those who love us will help us thru the pain.

If YOU Think Someone Reblogging YOUR Post Is PLAGIARISM, Turn Off Reblog Button!

WordPress is at it again, making changes to something that’s not broken and not telling anyone about the changes, not to mention more changes are coming. So when the hell are they going to tell us?????

After close to 20 years with WP maybe it’s time to find another host. WP has the worst communication when it comes to keeping the Happiness Engineers and community up-to-date.

Here’s a glimpse of an email and current chat I’m on.

Me:

Since 5/11 my headlines and photos don’t show up when I reblog from Looking for the Light to Survivors Blog Here. I’ve been reblogging for 14 years to that site and have never had this problem. I emailed two days ago and haven’t heard back.

WordPress:

I’d be happy to help you with that. We have received feedback from numerous customers who feel that reblogging appears somewhat plagiaristic. To better follow the original intent of reblogging, which is to reshare content that users appreciate, we’ve implemented some recent changes. There are some changes that have been released and some others that are being implemented. If there is something you want to reshare tomorrow. You can add a featured image and title for this particular post.

In the meantime, I’ve reached out to the development team to get a better understanding of the upcoming changes to share with you. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

Me:

If people don’t want their work reblogged they can turn off the button, that’s how it works. WP is now changing that?

It’s not a matter of working like it should, it’s that WP is saying people are complaining about plagiarism and have changed the process. But the process has not been released to the users. And more changes are coming.

WordPress:

I can confirm, the reblogging feature is being reworked and the hope is to have this resolved soon. The end result will be more of what you are used to which shows the title and image. In the meantime, things will be in this awkward stage. The developers are working to finish the updates as quickly as possible.

Yes and no. The underlying system and process is being updated but the end result will be more of what you are used to when it is finished. I have shared your feedback with the team. I realize this situation is not ideal!

Me:

Now I’m writing a post and can’t find the category section, are they messing with that too? What are bloggers to do, just stop until engineers finish their changes?

To make it worse, My Allow Comments and trackbacks were disabled. This is crazy! They are making your job much harder.

WordPress:

There should still be a Categories area in the sidebar settings of your Editor. But if you’re unable to find it, feel free to share the link to the post you’re working on, and I’ll take a closer look(edited)

Thanks for waiting, I see what you mean this far regarding the missing Categories area in both editors, that is strange! Mostly because Categories are still required for all posts, so that hasn’t changed.

I don’t know if this is actually being caused by changes from our developers or from a conflict from another area of your site, so I’ll do a bit of troubleshooting to confirm this first. This may take me a few minutes, but I’ll reply in the chat with any progress.

The Happiness Engineer solved the problem with the Category Section, no clue on when Reblogging will return to the new normal.

Every Person And Service You Need To Ensure Your Business Stands The Test Of Time

If you are in the early stages of setting up a business then you may be wondering who the best people to have on your team are. This can include anyone from cleaners to CEOs, it all comes down to personal preference and how well you want your company to do. You may be aware that not all businesses will make it to their third year of trading. A whopping 90% of businesses will fail during this time for one reason or another. If you are not sure of who to work with or have on your team then take a look below.

Photo by Tim Mossholder on Pexels.com

Great Employees

One thing you will need to have on your team is a good number of employees. These will need to be hardworking individuals who don’t bring you down, but instead build up your business. When it comes to the hiring process, you need to get this right from the get-go. You don’t want to end up with a high employee churn rate. This will be detrimental to your business and could potentially bring it crashing down.

Management Services

If you don’t have much experience with working in the business world then it might be extremely useful for you to use property managers. They will look after every aspect of your building and keep your company afloat. They can have many jobs and tasks, some can include working with cleaners to keep the building clean and tidy. Other jobs might be to sort out the cash flow of your company.

Accountants

You should also make sure that you are using accountants in your business model. Accountants will keep your business books healthy and guarantee that your company never ends up in the red in the future. They can also be useful at critical times during the year such as when you need help with your taxes. By getting help with your taxes, you can avoid a situation where you end up with a massive tax bill that is going to cost you an absolute fortune. If you can’t afford the services of a pro accountant, then, you should consider using a cloud accounting service to check your spending in real-time.

Suppliers

Next, you should make sure that you have the right suppliers who you can depend on. If you don’t have the right suppliers, then you’re going to end up with issues relating to turnaround which is going to be an absolute disaster. This could cause clients to abandon your business completely. One of the best ways that you can find suppliers is by using a consultant. They will ensure that you make connections with companies and teams that you can trust. You may also want to consider hiring a legal advisor. They’ll ensure that any contracts you make with suppliers are ironclad.

Web Designers

Finally, you should make sure that you are hiring the best web designers for your business. Your website is the first impression that people are going to receive of your company. If you don’t tick the right boxes here, then you are going to immediately turn them off. The right web designer will help you avoid issues here and ensure that you have a website that matches your brand perfectly.

How To Save Money On Most Anything

Inflation has driven many people to look for coupons for the first time only to find that coupons don’t come in the mail anymore. Company Savings Programs, Shopping, and Reward Apps are the first lines of defense and there are many to pick from.

The first place to look for cost savings is with the companies you work with. In our case, we shop at Kroger. They have a Loyalty Program that not only gives you coupons but also gives discounts on gas. Who would not want a grocer like that?

Our local CVS (drug store) pays a reward on many items including prescriptions. You sign up for the program and are given a card to use at checkout. Your card is scanned at the beginning of check-out and the money is in your account until the cash-out date. In this case, the reward money can only be used at CVS.

Don’t forget to look at Savings Programs offered directly from the stores you shop at. I belong to the Savings Programs for several of the stores I shop at. The companies offer a small reward for shopping with them and if they work with a company like Ratuken, it’s a double reward.

As far as Apps go, I use the reward Apps PayPal Honey and Ratuken for my online shopping. They are loaded in my browser and automatically pick up if a reward is offered. The rewards are turned into money and stack up fast. The other tip is, companies change the percentage paid by Ratuken regularly. If I don’t need anything right away, I wait until the percentage offered by Ratuken is higher before buying.

Another way to shop is to go straight to PayPal Honey and Ratuken sites and shop from their store list. These are just two Apps but there are many to pick from to meet your needs.

To find out what Apps are right for you, go to the App Store, review what’s available, and look for Apps that offer rewards to the largest number of stores to give you the best opportunity to earn. Make sure to read reviews before downloading.

Tackling The Most Common Causes Of Stress And Anxiety

You only have to listen to the headlines or read the newspaper to see that anxiety levels are rising and a growing number of people are experiencing stress. In this guide, we’ll discuss some common causes of stress and anxiety and offer tips to help you cope.

Money worries and unemployment

Unemployment is one of the most talked-about subjects at the moment, with many people losing their jobs or businesses and others struggling to hang on to theirs. Balancing the books is challenging at the best of times when you’re trying to manage a household or raise kids, but the pandemic has exacerbated difficulties and made staying in the black virtually impossible for some. If you’re experiencing financial strain, or you’ve lost your job, there is help out there. Don’t hesitate to seek advice about incentives or support measures that are available to you during the crisis and look for opportunities to increase your income if your workload is reduced or you’ve lost your job. From Forex Trading, to online courses, and blogging to temporary jobs, it’s possible to find solutions, even if they are only a short-term option to tide you over. It’s also beneficial to try and reduce spending on non-essential items and budget to make your money stretch further and to find out about programs that could prevent you from getting into debt in the weeks ahead. Some companies offer freezes on loan and credit card payments, for example.

Relationship breakdown

Relationships can make or break us. While some relationships lift our spirits and make us feel secure and content, others can have a negative impact. Break-ups are tough and it can take a long time to come to terms with the fact that you’re moving in a direction that is different from the one you expected to take. You might have envisioned spending your entire life with a partner, only to find that you’re now on your own. Take your time to process what has happened and to heal. Lean on the people closest to you and try to focus on the present, rather than the past. Often, relationships don’t work, and once you have a sense of perspective and time has passed, you realize that there was a good reason for parting. Let yourself feel and experience emotions and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get on with life, start dating or stop feeling upset about the situation. Move at your own pace. Everyone copes in different ways and there is no right or wrong way to deal with relationship breakdowns.

Trauma

Traumatic events such as accidents, natural disasters, or sexual assault can trigger a specific type of anxiety known as PTSD. These feelings of anxiety can be stirred up later in life – often by small and innocuous things that remind us of the traumatic event (such as the sight of a pool after a near-death drowning experience). Doctors can sometimes prescribe drugs to help with day-to-day life. There’s also the option of natural treatments for PTSD. In most cases, therapy can be the best option – a professional therapist will know exactly how to confront your fear in a healthy and effective way so that you can continue to get on with your life.

Work

Do you feel like you’re swimming against the tide, or do you dread the alarm going off every morning? It’s rare to find a job you enjoy every minute of every day, but work shouldn’t be a source of severe stress or anxiety. If you are feeling under pressure, or you’re struggling to switch off, talk to your boss about your workload, address issues that are getting to you, and take some time out. It’s crucial to have a balance and to enjoy downtime. Learn to say no. If you’re already working too many hours without pay, or your to-do list is endless, don’t take on more work or sign yourself up for extra commitments after work. Rest, relax and look after yourself.

Stress and anxiety are rife at the moment. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. There are myriad causes, but help is available. Don’t hesitate to reach out and try and take care of yourself as best you can.

Happy Birthday, Apple Computer!

Today I watched a fascinating interview with Steve Jobs in 1981. What a genius he was, part of the genius was his hard-core passion for building a solid product with the tools people want. He talked about how the company was structured, and the freedom/accountability employees have. Trust was the foundation.

Thank you to all Apple employees! I appreciate you every day, all day.
